“Self-awareness” is the key word here.
Self-awareness is the reason why we tend to have one-off games. It’s the same reason why we avoid spending hours and minutes on other things that make us more aware of our own existence. We tend to get caught in the middle and never really get to the root of the problem. This would be the case if you were a gamer and didn’t necessarily have a clear idea of what you were doing.

The game is called Highest Order, because you can imagine that its the highest order of anything, any game. A self-aware mind would not have to be aware of its own existence to be aware of its highest order. It’s as simple as that.
We’d think that if we were a little more aware of our own existence, we could begin to think differently. But we have no way of knowing that. If we’re a little more aware of it, we might be able to start to do a better job at that.
The most important thing that we can do is to get to the point where we think differently. This is why so many people with autism or Asperger’s syndrome, or those who suffer with dissociative identity disorder, are so adamant about finding a therapy that makes them more aware of their own mind. To do this we have to stop being unaware.
As much as we’re going to say that everyone is very smart, we can do a better job at this. You know, there’s an old saying, “If you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t know it.” It’s really not true. The fact that we don’t think differently about other people’s actions (such as those of you and my friends) is a sign that we don’t know that we’re doing the right thing.
There are two types of mindfulness: cognitive and emotional. The first is about the conscious effort to identify and acknowledge a goal, and the second is an unconscious effort to stay present in the moment and experience whatever comes up. If you were to put a person on drugs to get them to think more analytically, you would probably have less trouble with their cognitive mindfulness.
In my opinion, the first and most important cognitive component of mindfulness is the one that we all struggle with the most. It is what the Buddhists call “awakening.” In waking the mind, we are able to recognize that we do not have to do one thing at a time. We are all the time doing two things at the same time. We are both thinking about what we are doing and saying. We are both thinking about what we are not doing.
This is an excellent example of how we can be aware of and observe the same thing at the same time. As we are in the midst of a moment of our waking, we are both aware that we are thinking about what we are doing and saying. And yet we are simultaneously also aware that we are not doing anything. That the moment we are in is not our time and that the moment we are not is our time.
